Hannah, a widow with guardianship of her children, did not remarry. She came to upstate NY
with her sons Selah and True in 1788 at Clinton NY. Lemuel followed shortly after she died
around 1800. A member of the Congregational Chuch.
Hannah married Henry Cook IV son of Henry Cook III and Sarah
Turner Frost on 27 Nov 1745 in Northbury, (Plymouth) Conn.. Henry was
born on 17 Aug 1723 in Wallingford, Conn.. He died on 6 Sep 1771.
Henry was at Northbury with his father in 1728 When he puchased his first tract of land at Welton's
Meadow. He was a soldier in the French and Indian War during the campaign of 1762 serving as a
private. He was a very Successful farmer as his father had been. After Henry died his wife Hannah
was given guardianship of their children and she did not remarry. He was a Congregationalist.
He served in the French and Indian War, 1762, in the 2nd CT. Reg. under Col. Nathan Whiting and
in the 7th Comp. commanded by Capt. Lewis. He enlisted 18 Mar 1762 and was Hon. Dis.
3 Dec 1762 as a Private.

17. Lemuel Cook (Hannah
Benham, Nathan, John, John) was born on 10 Sep 1759 in Northbury,
(Plymouth) Conn.. He died on 20 May 1866 in Clarendon, Orleans Co. New
York.
Lemuel was the Oldest and last living suvivor of the American Revolution and the last full pensioner of
that
war.He enlisted at age 16 and was wounded several times. I can picture him marching alone in parades.
He was an active Mason and a life long Domocrat. His church was Congregational. He lived in Plymouth
Conn. until 1890 when he moved to Clinton, NY. In 1795 he returned to Plymouth (then Northbury) Conn.
and moved to Pompey, NY. In 1805, moved to North Bergen in 1821 and to Clarendon, NY. in 1832
where

III and Esther Benham on 26 Apr 1783 in Cheshire, Conn.. Hannah was

True was born at Plymouth, Litohfield County, CT and went with his father to
Pompey, NY. in 1804. His wife was also born in CT. and they came to North Bergen
before 1830. In the 1840's they removed to Clarendon where they lived the
remainder of their lives. True was a very successful farmer at North Bergen
and Clarendon; he owned several bundred acres at both locations. He provided
a home for his father after he retired and diring the the last years of his life.
Although the census records show that True and Mary had a son and a daughter
no further mention of them is found after 1840, we are unable to determine either
their names or their destiny. True was active in town politics as well as family affairs.
Upon his death his entire estate went to his wife and then to the Dawson
family when she died.
True married Mary Ann Dawson estimated 1814. Mary was born on 18 May 1800. She died on 26 May 1885.

Lyman Cook was born about 1799. Lyman died
about 1892 in Mich., at age unknown. He married
Amy Huling 09 Jan 1808. Amy was born 02 Feb
1789. Amy died 20 Aug 1867 in Saratoga County,
New York, at age 78. I have recently discovered
that the following information relates to another
Lyman Cook, not ours. I am not sure that I have
the spouse correct. I have kept the records in my
data base on the descendants of that Lyman Cook,
although I don't believe them to be related to
us.
I will keep looking for information on our Lyman,
who, I believe died in a poor house in Michigan.
Another rumor is Buffalo, Wisconcin and that his
wifes name was Sally (more reliable).
Born at Northbury, Connecticut the eldest of
Lemuel's children, came to New York at an early
date and settled in Saratoga County where he
lived throughout his life. Resided at Saratoga
Springs and Milton, New York. He may have moved
to Clarendon, New York for a short time but
returned to Saratoga County where all of his
children were born and where both he and Amy
died. He was a successful Farmer.

21. Miles Cook (Lemuel Cook,
Hannah Benham, Nathan, John, John) was born on 26 Apr 1788 in Clinton,
Town of Kirkland, New York. He died about 1875 in Probably Orleans
County, New York.
Settlement was begun in 1787 at Clinton and it is believed that Lemuel and
Hannah emigrated from Plymouth at that date, they returned to Connecticut
before 1795 and to Pompey, New York, in 1805. Miles served in
Clark's 98th Reg., New York Militia during the War of 1812 as a Private and
was stationed at Sackets Harbor. He was in the compay commanded by
Capt. Asa Wells.He enlisted at Pompey, NY., 27 Oct 1814 and was dis.
17 Nov 1814. His commanding officer was Capt. James Carr.
His first wife was the daughter of Timothy and Elizabeth
(Dewitt) Coleman, his second wife was the daughter of William and Sally
(Reed) Tousley, a brother of each married Miles' younger sisters and
each father-in-law served in the Revolution. Miles remained at Pompey
with his family for a number of years, coming to North Bergen, New
York after the death of his first wife and before 1840 and was at Clarendon
in 1850 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a successful farmer
throughout his life, his two eldest children were born at Pompey, the
others were born at North Bergen. Miles was baptised by a Rev. Eells.
The following were by his first wife: Dewitt, Matilda, Thomas and Curtis.
The following children were by his second wife: Mary jane, Marcus,
Orson and Phebe.

Esther was born in Connecticut or New York. She was baptised by Reverend Dan
Bradley of the Congregational Church of Whitestown, New York August 26,1792 at
Clinton, New York.
Esther married Joshua Coleman son of Timothy Coleman and
Elizabeth Dewitt on 1 Dec 1809 in Pompey, Onondaga County, NY.. Joshua
was born on 12 Oct 1785. He died on 3 Mar 1863 in Clarendon, Orleans
County, NY. He was buried in Clarendon, Orleans County, NY.
Joshua was a son of Timothy and Elizabeth (Dewitt) Coleman of Ulster County,
New York who emigrated to Pompey at an early date. Timothy was also a
Revolutionary Soldier and served in the New York Militia from
1775-1783 as a Private, an Ensign and a Lieutenant. Elizabeth
also had several brothers who were also soldiers of the
Revolution, the town of Dewitt, (near Syracuse) was named for
her family. After thier marriage Esther and Joshua resided at
Pompey and in Pennsylvania before moving to Clarendon about
1840. He was a successful farmer throughout his life, his farm
at Clarendon was on the Brown Schoolhouse Road at lot 175, he
was active in the politics of the town and served as School
Commissioner. Both died at Clarendon. Their children were born
at pompey and Pennsylvania. There may have been other
children.

He died on 4 Jan 1858.
He was baptised by the Rev. Daniel Bradley of the Whitestown
Congregational Church at Clinton. He returned to Conn. with
his father before 1795 and then to Pompey in 1804. His farm at
Pompey was adjacent to his father on Lot 51 which he retained
by mortgage after his emigration to western New York and his
arrival at Clarendon in 1828 where he lived the remainder of
his life. He was the first of our Cooks to come to Clarendon,
he was a successful farmer and was active in the politics of
the town being the first Highway Commissioner, holding this
and other offices from 1830-53. His wife was born in Conn. his
children were born at Pompey, Lois being the first at
Clarendon. Their church affiliation was Congregational.
Lemuel married Susan Mason on 19 Dec 1811 in Pompey, Onondaga
County, NY.. Susan was born on 17 Feb 1793 in Clinton, Oneida County,
New York. She died on 10 Oct 1871.

26. Curtis M. Cook (Lemuel
Cook, Hannah Benham, Nathan, John, John) was born on 14 May 1802 in
Northbury, (Plymouth) Litchfield County, Conn. . He died on 1 Dec 1882
in North Bergen, NY.
Curtis came to Pompey in Onondaga County, New York with his father in 1805. There is no
mention of Curtis at Pompey in 1818 and 1820, it is known that he was at N. Bergen in 1821
and it is believed that he came to Western New York with his future father-in-law at a much
earlier date. His wife was born at Verona, NY the Dau. of Richard Brown who was at Byron
NY in 1813 and was the first white settler of the town. Curtis purchased his first farm at
North Bergen in 1824 which he sold to his father in 1828 and purchased a larger tract nearby.
Curtis came to Clarendon in 1835, his farm was adjacent to that of his father on the South
Holley Road. Curtis was a successful farmer at both locations and was active in Clarendon
Politics, and the family were organizing members of the First Baptist Church of Sweden and
Bergen. Both Curtis and Betsy died at the homestead at Clarendon, their children were born
at North Bergen and Clarendon.
Curtis married Betsey Snow Brown daughter of Richard Brown about
1824 in North Bergen, NY. Betsey was born about 1804 in Verona, NY. She
died on 24 Jun 1895 in Clarendon, Orleans County, NY.

Born at Pompey, Onodaga County, NY, she came to North Bergen with her
father in 1821 and later to Clarendon with her husband.
Electa married Orson Tousley on 8 Sep 1824 in Clarendon, NY. Orson was born on 3 Mar 1800. He died on 5 Jun 1863.
Orson was the son of William and Sally (Reed) Towsley who came to western
N.Y. from Vermont at an early date. Wi1liam was a Revolutionary soldier aa
a drummer boy in Ira Allen's Regament of the Vermont Millitia. Orson was a
very succdessful farmer and businessman, he was active in town politics.
His farm was located on the Holley Byron Rd. near the farm of Lemuel Jr,
and he owned several other tracts of land on the Upper Holley Rd. The family
removed to Gaines in the 1850's both Electa and Orson died at Albion, their
children were all born at Claondon.

Hannah us born at Pompey and came to western New York with her
father in 1821. John was born in Pennsylvania and was a farmer and
gun smith. The family resided at Batavia, NY where Edgar was born,
shortly thereafter they emigrated to Michigan and settled near Clarkston
or Ortonville in Groveland township. Hannah died very young and John
remarried, and remained in Genesee Co. throughout his life first at
Flushing and later at Hadley. Edgar had 3 brothers and 2 sisters but
he was as far as is known the only surviving child of Hannah and John.
Their daughter Hannah. was born in Mich. where she died shortly
after birth.
Hannah married John W. Howe on 27 Dec 1827 in North Bergen, NY. John was born on 17 Feb 1803. He died on 3 Nov 1873.

Born at Pompey, Onondaga County, New York he came to western N.Y. with
his father and settled at Clarendon in 1832 where he lived the rest of his life.
He assisted his father in the operation of the farms at North Bergen and also
at Clarendon, purchased his own farm in 1836 and he was a very successful
farmer all his life, he owned several hundred acres of prime farm land at
Clarendon. He was very active in the town politics and held several offices to
which he had been selected and elected to by his fellow townspeople between
1861 and 1877. He provided at home for his dad during his retirement years.
His first wife was the daughter of Henry Putnam of North Bergen who died giving
birth to their 7th child, his second wife was his sister-in-law who had also been
widowed. Gilbert was a member of the Orleans Pioneer Society, and a
Republican in his politics, children all born at Clarendon.
Gilbert married (1) Lucinda Putnam in 1834 in Clarendon, NY. Lucinda was born on 23 Dec 1819. She died on 6 Oct 1851.

County, NY.. He died on 24 Jul 1894.
Born at Pompey, Onondaga Co. New York he was I,emuel's youngest son, he
came to North Bergor with his father in 1821 and also to Clarendon with his
dad in 1832. He assisted his father in the operation of the farms and thru his
effort the farms prospered and they had a very successful 100 acre farm at
Clarendon on the South Holley Road at the Munger Road. In 1851 Selah
emigrated to Flint, Mich. and lived in Genesee County the rest of his life.
He owned several tracts of land in the city and in the township. He exilisted
in the Civil War 10 Sep 1861 and served for a year in Co. F 2nd Mich, Cavalry
as a wagoneer, and was given a disaility discharge by Gen. U.S. Grant
11 Sep 1862. The children were all of his first Wife who was born in
Pennsylvania, there may have been others by his 2nd and 3rd wives,
there is also mention of Abigail who may have been 4th wife.
Selah died at Flint, and was also a member the G.A.R.
Selah married (1) Mary Weldon in 1834 in Clarendon, NY. Mary was born in Jul 1801. She died on 28 Dec 1863.

Hannah married Lemuel Cook son of Henry Cook IV and Hannah Benham
on 26 Apr 1783 in Cheshire, Conn.. Lemuel was born on 10 Sep 1759 in
Northbury, (Plymouth) Conn.. He died on 20 May 1866 in Clarendon,
Orleans Co. New York.
Lemuel was the Oldest and last living suvivor of the American Revolution and the last full pensioner of
that
war.He enlisted at age 16 and was wounded several times. I can picture him marching alone in parades.
He was an active Mason and a life long Domocrat. His church was Congregational. He lived in Plymouth
Conn. until 1890 when he moved to Clinton, NY. In 1795 he returned to Plymouth (then Northbury) Conn.
and moved to Pompey, NY. In 1805, moved to North Bergen in 1821 and to Clarendon, NY. in 1832
where

32. Dewitt Clinton Cook
(Miles Cook, Lemuel Cook, Hannah Benham, Nathan, John, John) was born
on 16 Aug 1813 in Pompey, Onondaga County, NY. He died on 8 Mar 1884 in
Clarendon, NY. He was buried in Hillside Cemetary in Holly, NY.
Dewitt came to Western NY. with his father before his marriage and settled at North Bergen,
Genesee County, in 1840 he was residing in Clarendon with his wife where they lived the rest
of their lives. Dewitt was a carpenter or house joiner by trade, he built many of the frame
Buildings of the town, homes, farm buildings and schools that are still standing. His residence
was on Upper Holly Road at lot 152 which consisted of 48 acres, a short distance north of
what is now the Brown Schoolhouse Road. He was a member of the Orleans Pioneer.
His wives were born at Norfolk, Conn. Their church affiliation was Methodist. The children
were all born at Clarendon.
Sarah C. Burr was the first wife of Dewitt. Sarah died on march 2, 1839 at age 20 due to
complications of giving birth to George Newton, Dewitts first son. During the next several
months, while Dewitt was at work, Sarah's older sister Celestia cared for and became attached
to the child, who was sickly and required constant care. on Sept. 9, 1839 George
Newton died at age 7 months and 13 days. Dewitt and Celestia, both grieving deeply over
the loss of the child, took refuge in each other and married shortly there after. Together they
had three more children and there are literally hundreds of living ancesters like myself.
Dewitt is burried at Hillside cemetary in Holly, Orleans Co. NY. Also burried there are his
wives and three children. This Cook family plot is in a beautiful place on a hillside in a grove
of large trees. The cemetary is terraced and is a nice place to walk and enjoy the out of doors.

1815 in Norfolk, Conn.. She died on 11 Oct 1896 in Clarendon, Orleans
Co. New York. She was buried in Hillside Cemetary in Holly, Orleans Co.
NY.
I believe that Celestia was born in Norfolk Conn. , but her name is not on record at the Norfolk
Town Hall. It may be that she was born somewhere else, since I have no proof. I was able to
find the birth record for Her father Elisha, on file in Norfolk. Dewitt and Celestia were both Methodists.
She lived first 18 years in Conn. accompanied parents to Sprinwater, NY, later to Clarendon, Orleans Co.

Matilda was born at Pompey and came to North Bergen with her father, and later to
Clarendon. Geoge Weed, her husband, was a soldier during theCivil War serving
as a private in C Company, 105th Regiment NY Vol. Infantry enlisting in 1862,
he may have died in service, nothing further is known. Matilda was a dressmaker and
seamstress at Clarendon for a number of years, she had a small shop in the
building at the corners also containing the harness shop of her McAllister cousins.
She resided in the home of her brother Dewitt with her daughter.
Matilda married George W. Weed estimated 1835. George was born about 1814.

on 1 Aug 1842 in North Bergen, NY. He died on 10 May 1919.
He came to Clarendon NY with his father at an early date where he purchased his
first farm in 1867 from his cousin Spencer Coleman consisting of 42 acres
of lot 66 on the Holly-Byron Road directly across the road from his
fathers farms at North Bergen and Clarendon giving him ample
experience in becomming a successful farmer.
He was a soldied in the Civil War serving for 3 years from
1862 to the close of the war in 1865. He enlisted with several
of his cousins who all served in Co. K 8th NY Hvy Arty. After
Being Honerably Discharged he returned to western NY where he
married, living at different times at both Byron and
Clarendon. In 1914 he retired and moved to Holly NY receiving
a pension for his war service."
Orson married (1) Eliza Goodnow on 3 Dec 1866. Eliza was born about 1848. She died on 28 Jun 1880.

Born in Pennsylvania she returned to Pompey with her father
before her marriage and later came to Clarendon.
Sally married John Holmes II son of John Holmes on 5 Apr 1836 in
Pompey, Onondaga County, NY.. John was born about 1817. He died about
1895.
John was a farmer and a carpenter by trade, in 1861 he entered the ministry of the
United Brethern Church and served as a Minister the rest of his life. His great
grandfather was a Revolutionary Soldier, he was a brother of Oliver
Wendell Holmes (the poet) whose son became a Judge of the
Supreme Court. It is recorded in the Holmes family records that
the Holmes Revolutionary soldier fought at the Battle of Bennington
with Lemuel Cook.
His father was also named John.

A Civil War soldier, he enlisted in Company K, 8th N.Y. Regiment of Hvy
Arty. 28 Jul 1862 at Clarendon and was mustered in at Lockport 22 Aug
1862. He was missing in Action at Reams Station, Va. (obviously having
been captured with Charles W. Cook) 25 Aug 1864 and was imprisoned at Salisbury
Prison, N.C. where he died of Typhoid Fever 13 Jan 1865. He Enlisted as
a Private and was promoted to Corporal 1 Feb 1864.
Company K 8th. N.Y. Regirnent was recruited in Clarendon , these Cook Cousins
all enlisted at the same time and obviously participated in the same battles and
engagements throughout their service.

his education at the Holly Academy and served in the Civil War
in Co. K 8th Hvy Arty from 1862-1865. He enlisted 1 Aug 1862. He witnessed
The surrender of Lee at Appomatex and was discharged honorably
on 5 Jun 1865. He was a carpenter and a building
contractor at Holley until 1881 when he removed to South Dakota
where he entered the study of Law and was admitted to the South Dakota
Bar in 1885, he practiced at plankinton and was a Justice of
the Peace for four years until his return to New York in 1895.
He was admitted to the New York Bar in October 1896 and settled
at Brockport where he lived and practiced his profession the rest of
his life. He was a member of Cady Post 236 G.A.R. and Monroe
Lodge 173 A.F. & A.M. and also I.O.O.F. No record of children
has been found.

to Clarendon, New York with his father at an early date. He
was very successful as a farmer and businessman at Clarendon
where he resided for many years. His farm was located on the
Merrill Road at lot 20, he acquired other holdings thru
mortgage and as Loan Agent. The family later removed to
Brockport where he continued to engage in business and where
Lucy and Spencer died. He was a Methodist in his church
affiliation and a Republican in his politics. The children
were all born at Clarendon."

"Born at Pompey, NY he came to Clarendon with his father where he became a successful farmer.
His farm was located on the Barre Road at the Hibbard Road (Rt31A) at lot 205, consisting of
48 acres. He was also active in Clarendon politics as Assessor in 1870 and Overseer of Poor
in 1878. His wife, Sarah, was born in Castile, New York and died at Clarendon. Simeon
removed to Mechanicsville, N.Y. where he died. The seven children were born in Clarendon
and Byron, New York."
Later in life, after the death of his first wife, Sarah, Simeon married Ruth Ann
(maiden name unknown). Ruth and Simeon had no children.
Simeon married Sarah Ann Bates about 1851. Sarah was born on 12

were all born at Clarendon.

Born at Pompey, Onondaga County, New York, he came to western New York and to
Clarendon with his father in 1828, where he lived throughout his life. He assisted his
father in the operation of the farm before purchasing his own farm in 1858 which was
located on the Upper Holley Road at the New Guinea Road at Lot 40, by 1880 he had
acquired sections of abutting lots 39 and 52 and held over 150 acres which he
operated as a very successful farm. He served as an Ensign in the 215th Regiment, _53rd Brigade ,
23rd Division of Infantry in the New York Militia in 1838. He
was a member of the Orleans Pioneer Society. His children were
all born at Clarendon.
Merritt married Jane Darrow about 1836 in Clarendon, Orleans
County, NY. Jane was born about 1821. She died on 22 Aug 1898.

Born at Pompey Onondaga Co. NY he worked with his father on
the farm at Clarendon while obtaining his education. He was a
teacher at Clarendon and Elba, his wife was the dau. of Enos
Pomeroy and Polly (Sutton) Cook a descendant of Daniel Cook a
Revolutionary Soldier. Homer emigrated to Lake Mills, Wis.
about 1845 where he lived throughout his life. He was a very
successful farmer, business man, Banker and real estate
developer at Lake Mills. At one time he owned the land where
the city of Los Angeles is now situated, unable to obtain
clear title he returned to Wis. He was responsible for the
advanced development of Lake Mills, he donated land for
schools and churches of the town. When he died he left each of
his children large sections of his land holdings at Lake Mills
where he died. His children all were born at L. M. His church
was Congregational.

Lois married Timothy G. McAllister in 1854 in Clarendon, NY. Timothy was born in 1823. He died in 1895.
Timothy was a sucessful farmer, harrnessmaker and
blacksmith and businessman. He operated a harness-shop at
Clarendon Corners for many years and owed over 135 acres of
land at Clarendon in 1880, and was also active in the politics
of the town. He was a descendent of William McAllister the
first settler of Rich's Corners in 1811. Lois was the first
Cook born at Clarendon and was a life long resident, their
home was located on the Upper Holley Road on Lot 152 and at a
later date owned her father's homestead. After Lois died
Timothy married Sarah Rhodes but there were no children of
that marriage. Lois' children were all born at Clarendon.

Born at Clarendon, he assisted his father in the
operation of the farm for several years, he received a part of
his dad's holdings when he died, he was a successful farmer,
in 1883 he held title to 400 acres at Clarendon, his
resisdence was on the New Guinea Road near the original
homestead of his father, and later on the Merrill Road. He was
a soldier in the Civil War, and was the Methodist Minister at
Clarendon. His wife was the daughter of Curtis and Carrie
Benham. His Children were all born at Clarendon, his eldest
daughters were teachers in schools of Clarendon and did not
marry. Franklin and Carrie died at Clarendon where they lived_all their lives. He was called in the first
draft for Orleans County
in August 1863. The unit and the extent of his service remains
unknown.
Franklin married Caroline T. Benham on 7 Oct 1854 in Clarendon,
Orleans County, NY. Caroline was born about 1836. She died on 7 Mar
1907.

born on 10 Feb 1827 in North Bergen, NY. He died on 7 Oct 1909.
He assisted his father in the operation of the farm at Clarendon for a number of years, and
received a part of his dad's holdings after his marriage. In 1863 he emigrated to Antwerp,
Ohio with his family where he remained until 1875 and went to Paw Paw, Mich. where he died.
He was a successful farmer throughout his life, he was a constable at Clarendon, his
children were born at Clarendon and at Antwerp, Oh.
Henry married Sabrina Elmore on 18 Oct 1854. Sabrina was born on 6 Apr 1836. She died on 10 Jun 1906.

60. Willis Curtis Cook , MD
(Curtis M. Cook, Lemuel Cook, Hannah Benham, Nathan, John, John) was
born on 25 Jun 1831 in North Bergen, NY. He died on 13 Apr 1920.
Born at North Bergin Genesee Co. he worked on his dads farm at Clarendon
for several years, he emigrated to Yan Buren Co. Michigan in 1857, his first
wife died at Conneaut, Ohio during the trip. He settled at Antwerp where all
of his children were born. His second wife was the daughter of Polly
(Van Antwerp) Williams. Willis served in the Civil War first in the 13th Mich
Infantry and the 9th Mich. Cav. from 1861-1865. He returned to western N.Y
about 1875 and entered Niagara University medical school in 1880, he practiced
first at Clarendon and Holley and then in Brockport for 40 years. With his eldest
son he founded the Monroe Medicine Co. and made and sold patent medicines
developed during his practice. He was on the Board of Health for Brockport
and Sweden, a memner of Cady Post G.A.R., Daniel Holmes Chapter 173
F & AM. He retired from his practice in 1917 and lived for an extended
period at Unionville, Ohio, and at Albion, N.Y where he died, his wife
Mary died at Brockport.
Willis married (1) Mary Ellen Williams on 14 Nov 1857 in Lawton,
Mich. Mary was born on 14 Oct 1839. She died on 29 Apr 1902.

and practiced in Illinois, Jay was a farmer and businessman at
Unionville,and Paul operated a Coal company under his name at
Unionville.

Zett was born at Clarendon, Henry and the family lived and worked on
Curtis' farm for several years. They also worked for Cook cousin Rath
Tousley who later owned the farm of Lemuel Sr on the South Holley Rd.
After Curtis died the family removed to Brockport then to Hamlin and
later to Rochester. Henry was constable and assessor at Clarendon.
They also lived at Byron, in 1911 Hernry retired from farming.
The children were born at Clarendon.
Rosetta married Henry Vandenberg in 1868 in Clarendon, NY. Henry was born on 1 Sep 1840. He died in 1929.

and Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals in 1870. In 1870 he resided in
Rochester but returned to Albion. His son and grandson were also
prominent lawyers at Albion.

Born at Batavia, Genesee Co. New York the son of John W. and Hannah (Cook)
Howe, his mother was born at Pompey and was Lemuel's youngest dau. his
father was a gunsmith and was born In PA. the son of John Sr and Martha
Howe who settled at Elba, N.Y. at an early date. Hannah died between l830-50
John W.. remarried and removed to Mich. Edgar had at least one brother and
several half brothers and sisters. Edgar emagrated to Michigan prior to to his
marriage where he lived the remainder of his life, his wife was the daughter of
Thomas and Sarah (Swayzee) Bird, her great grand father WWilliam Stewart
was also a Revolutionary Soldier and a descendant of the Earl of Butte. In 1860
the family resided in Flint township and at Elba in Lapeer Co. In 1880 where they
died. Their ohildren were all born in Mich.
Edgar married Emaline Bird on 1 Jan 1852 in Groveland, Mich.. Emaline was born on 9 Oct 1833. She died on 18 Apr 1905.

81. Alphonso D. Cook
(Gilbert Cook, Lemuel Cook, Hannah Benham, Nathan, John, John) was born
in 1846. He died on 26 Sep 1921.
Born at Clarendon he was a life long resident of the town. He began his farming
career on a tract of land originally owned by his father, and was given to him
when he married, it consisted of 52 acres on Lot 32 on the Merrill Road. He
later owned a Section of lot i08 near the Clarendon Corners on route 31A where
he spent his retirement years. With his brother Louis and sister Lutie he received
a portion of his father's considerable real estate holdings, which he retained
until his death. Like his father he was also active in Clarendon politics and held
several offices between 1867 and 1884. He died at Clarendon and his wife in
Rochester at the home of their son.
Alphonso married Eunice Darrow in 1874 in Clarendon, NY. Eunice was born in 1852. She died on 24 Feb 1941.
They had the following children:
