Gorham in Jan. 1801 with his wife and children. He was a member of the
Chesterfield Congregational Church and were voted a letter to
Canadaigua,NY

"Major" in 1791 [Chesterfield VR].
Served in the Revolutionary
War: Served in Capt. Bonny's Company, Col.
May's Regiment, engaged
20 Sept. 1777; discharged 14 Oct. 1777 from service, 29 days on
expedition to
Stillwater, including 100 miles travel home. Rev.War Rolls dated,
Chesterfield,MA [*MassRevSoldiers v.17 p.142].

It
appears from my research that Absalom Russell b.1777, was the first of
this
family to come to Ontario Co.,NY. when married his wife Anna Babcock,
dau. of
George & Susanna (Sheldon) Babcock in March 1800 which was a good 6
months
before his father left the Congregational Church in MA with his letter
to the
Church at Canadigua,NY.
Absalom Russell's first land
sale was 13 May 1801 between Absalom
Russell of Easton, Ontario Co.,NY and
Zebelon
Mack of Bristol,Ontario Co.,NY being that of land situated in the
county of
Ontario for $300. 50 acers of land off of lot #30 lying and being in
Canandaigua, NY in township #9, Range #3.[Canandaigua Courthouse, liber
8, p.
97].
His
next sale of land came 17 Feb. 1804 between Absalom Russell of
Southampton,Genesee Co.,NY and Benjamin Benson of Canandaigua,Ontario
Co.,NY for
$300. a parcel of land situated on township #9, Range #3 in the County
of
Ontario state of New York being part of lot N-30 to be taken off the
northside
of said lot so onto 50 acers of land. [Canandaigua Courthouse, liber 9

independent; To all whom these presents shall come or may concern, find
greetings, know ye, that at the town of Canandaigua in the County of
Ontario, on
the Ninth Day of November in the year of our lord One Thousand Eight
Hundred and
Thirteen, before me Eliphalet Taylor,esq. surragate of our said county,
the last
will and testament of John Russell deceased, (a copy of is hereunto
ammoxed) was
proved and is now approved and allowed of by us; and the said deceased
having
which by lived, and at the time of his death, goods ,chattels or
credits within
his estate, by means whereof the for owing and registering the said
will, and
the granting administration of all and singular the said goods,chattles
and
credits and also the aduiting, allowing and final discharging of all
and
singular the goods,chattels and credits of the said deceased, and any
way
concerning his will is granted unto Hannah Russell (John Russell Jr.
the other
executor named in said will having renounced) executrix in the said
will named,
hereby ________her will and faithfully to administer the land and to
make and
exibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said
goods,chattels
and credits, and also to render a just and true account thereof when
thereunto

being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, do make
and publish
this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is
to say)
first, I give my soul to God who gave and my body to the grave to be
buried in a
decent manner according to the directions of my executors here after
named, I
also will that all my debts be paid, and also my funeral charges, I
also give
and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah Russell all the remainder of my
real and
personal estate during her natural life except so much as shall be here
after
disposed of, I also give and bequeath to my two sons John Russell and
Absalom
Russell one dollar each, and all my farming utensils to be equally
divided
between them, I also give and bequeath unto my three daughters, Hannah
Phillips,
Sophia Murray and Sally Murray to be paid them at the deceased of my
beloved
wife, each one third of the household furniture which shall be left at
my wifes
deceased, and _____ as to the rest residue and remainder of all my
personal and
real estate which shall be left at the decease of my beloved wife
H.Russell, I
give and bequeath the same to be equally divided between my children. I
appoint
my son John Russell and my wife Hannah Russell the executor and
exeutrix of this
my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me
made. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 27th day of

testament of the said John Russell deceased, bearing date the Twenty
Seventh day
of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and
Thirteen, that
at the time thereof, the said John Russell was of a sound disposing
mind and
memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent and
that he
the deponent and Jason Angeli and William Babcock subscribed their
names as
witnesses to the said will in the presence of each other, and in the
presence of
the vestaror ?
